While traditional technical indicators plot volume chronologically at the bottom of the chart, Volume Profile displays the total volume transacted at specific price levels over a selected time horizon. This reveals Market Auction Theory in real-time: price is the advertising mechanism, and volume is the acceptance or rejection of that price.

Understanding the Value Area

The Value Area represents the price range where 70% of total volume occurred during a specified consolidation or trading session. When price rotates outside the Value Area and fails to accept the higher or lower levels, an energetic mean-reversion swing back toward the Point of Control (POC) frequently occurs.

High Volume Nodes vs. Low Volume Nodes

High Volume Nodes (HVNs) represent fair value consensus where heavy accumulation took place, acting as strong magnet zones and horizontal support/resistance. Conversely, Low Volume Nodes (LVNs) represent zones where price moved through rapidly without significant trading activity. For swing traders, LVNs offer low-resistance liquidity paths for accelerated target runs.

Practical Chart Lab Drill

In our Weekend Chart Lab, students practice combining daily Volume Profile with 4-hour market structure to pinpoint high-probability retest entries. This confluence dramatically tightens stop distances and increases trade execution confidence.
